From fighting for our public education system, to organizing labor unions and empowering women in government, Nancy has been there.
I want to take a moment to tell you why I want to be your delegate.
I became an active union member in 1994 when I was hired with the Monongalia County Board of Education. Since then, I've held many offices with the Monongalia County School Service Personnel Association (MCSSPA) and am the current President. For 24 years, I've worked as a secretary and accountant in the education system. Five of those years were spent as the Financial Manager of the federal Gear Up Grant, which was designed to support and prepare middle school students for secondary education.
I’ve been married for over 30 years to my wonderful husband Jim, and we have one son, Brandon. We live on the outskirts of Morgantown on a farm that has been in our family for well over 100 years. I mow hay fields on a Massey Ferguson and I’ve chased cattle who have torn down fence. I’m not afraid of hard work.
West Virginia faces a number of issues that, if not fixed soon, will have a profound impact on our future in terms of business and people. The recent passage of Right to Work legislation and the tax windfall that has impacted PEIA are just a couple of the uphill battles we face.
Our public education system has come under attack. In the 2015 legislative session, the WV Public Charter Schools Act (SB 14 & HB 20140) was stopped, but plans are underway to present a new version of the bill in the current legislative session. Let me be clear when I say I oppose a bill that would privatize our education system, bust teacher unions, and leave special needs students behind.
I am running because I want to make Monongalia County, as well as West Virginia, a place where people want to raise their families. If elected, I will make protecting our public education system my top priority. In addition, I will work with other delegates on the other side of the aisle to develop a comprehensive plan to grow small business, and make healthcare and college more affordable.
I hope you will consider voting for me in the 51st District. Together, we can turn our region around, invest in our future, and make West Virginia a place to call home for generations to come.
